Alabama Province Education Conference at UAB with Past Grand Prytanis Mark C. Romig

On October 3, 2009, the Pi-Delta chapter of TKE was honored to host the 2009 Alabama Province Education Conference (PEC). Among the list of great facilitators, Past Grand Prytanis Mark C. Romig conducted a session about servant-leadership principals. Besides Pi Delta, about 50 fraters from 5 different chapter were in attendance.

PEC  is typically a one day, local area conference that is free to attend for all Tekes in the area. The conference is planned and facilitated by local volunteers. PECs provides a great opportunity for fraters to share ideas with local TKEs, learn skills to make their chapter stronger, develop base leadership skills, and, of course, extend their TKE network! All active and candidate members of every chapter in the province are encouraged to attend.

This year’s workshops included risk management, leadership, social and career success, ritual, and recruitment. The day of sessions was ended with a round-table where the attendants got split into several groups to discuss and share habits and practices that make our chapters successful.

All the attendants finished off the day with a social event in a private venue in downtown Birmingham. Here is a list of all the chapters that were in attandance:

- Pi Delta @ UAB
- Lambda Zeta @ Troy
- Upsilon Alpha @ Spring Hill
- Tau Psi @ The University of West Florida
- Sigma-Psi @ Clemson University

Last but not least, we would like to thank all the volunteers for their great support and life loyal dedication. Their generous donation of time and money is always a source of inspiration and key to the success of the TKE Nation

- James Warren (Alabama Grand Province Adviser and organizer of the conference)

- Mark Romig (Past Grand Prytanis)

- David Adcock (Past Grand Officer)

- Matt Cole (Georgia Province Adviser)

- Jason Meier (Pi Delta Faculty Adviser)

Conclave in New Orleans

The 55th Biennial Conclave, held in New Orleans, had a record number of attendees this time with 843. The Conclave, which is held every other year, is a time for fraters from all over to meet and conduct business. A few of the highlights of the event included over 2000 hours of community service at City Park, election of a Grand Council, and amended the Constitution and Bylaws of the Fraternity.
On the first day of the Conclave, the Fraternity initiated the 250,000th member, Frater Steve Forbes.
The second day of Conclave provided attendees with several opportunities to continue with education. The men were among several breakout rooms for sessions ranging from “Understanding the Black Book” to “Recruitment” to The Blueprint and beyond.
The end of Friday saw one of the biggest TKE parades on the famous Bourbon Street. The street was overflowing with TKEs as the International Sweethearts and Frater Buckwheat led the procession. The parade was so large that it even drew the attention of the locals. The parade ended at the House of Blues were all the TKEs had a great time till the early hours of morning.
Conclave is always a huge event and this year’s Conclave at New Orleans proved to be the biggest. All had a great time and all are looking forward to 2010’s Conclave at the city of San Antonio.

Outstanding 30th Anniversary Weekend

30th-pic
Well over 100 Pi Delta Fraters gathered to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the Pi Delta Chapter.  The weekend began on March 27 with a casual cook-out at the Pi Delta Chapter House.  Active Fraters enjoyed socializing with Alumni spanning the decades.  Then, the next morning, the scheduled golf tournament was replaced with an outing to Vestavia Bowl due to inclimate weather.  Frater Scott Barnett, Pi Delta 54, bowled the high score of 164.  The weekend culminated with the Anniversary Banquet at the Birmingham Sheraton.  The semi-formal event was maxed to capacity as Fraters and guest listened to captivating speeches by the Andrew Stone, Active Prytanis, Pi Delta 407; Tripp Warren, Grand Province Advisor and Pi Delta Chapter Advisor, Pi Delta 411; Andy Marsch, UAB Student Life; and  Benny Bliss, Pi Delta Founder.  Mike Hobbs, Pi Delta 189, acted as emcee for the evening and kept things moving along, and we were glad that he was able to join us!  Frater David Bala, Pi Delta 448, prepared a video of recent chapter history for the event. Also, the annual Pi Delta Chapter Awards were presented.  Following the banquet dinner, guests enjoyed a closing reception with a live band.  One event of note during the closing reception was that active serenaded alumni and vice versa with some traditional TKE songs…”Yo Ho” and “Fraters, Fraters, Fraters,” respectively.  The evening ended with all Fraters joining in Rappa Tappa.  The event was a great success thanks to the help of many individuals, but special thanks goes to Patrick Tatum, Joshua Waldrop, and Jason Hall for their hardwork and dedication to the project.
