The Fraters of Pi Delta Chapter hosted a “Twister” tournament to raise money for the Burn Unit at Children’s Hospital on November 19, 2010. Brothers set up registration tables around campus weeks prior to the event in order to get as many participants and donations as possible. Not only did the brothers raise $1,053.00, but they were also able to provide great entertainment and prizes for the participants. First prize received an IPOD Touch, second prize was a VIZIO Blu Ray player, and third place received a George Foreman grill. The director of the burn unit at Children’s Hospital opened the tournament by thanking everyone for their participation and reminding everyone how important it is to help those in need. Because this is the first time Pi Delta has hosted such an event, we anticipate it to be an annual philanthropy and it will only become better in the future. Thanks to everyone that gave and made this such a success!!
UAB Tekes again hosted the 2010 Alabama/NW-Florida Province Education Conference (PEC), Saturday, October 23. Approximately 60 fraters from chapters in Alabama, NW Florida and West Georgia spent the day learning how to become a better chapter through topics such as Rush/Recruitment, Risk Management, Project Managing events and Group Dynamics. It also allowed fraters to discover what others are doing to be successful in TKE Nation. In addition, a ritual workshop was held for initiated members and a separate round-table discussion time for candidates that were present. Presenters included Matthew Barclift (Nu Mu – CA ), Brian Coons (Endeavor Province PA ), James Warren (Pi Delta – GPA), Tareq Fayad (Pi Delta - PA), Michael Smith (Nu Mu) and Steve Hancock (Pi Delta -CA). Great job Pi Delta!!

Every Summer, the TKE Educational Foundation sponsors the Charles Walgreen Leadership Academy. This academy is a four day event held in Colorado Springs, CO and fraters from across the country can apply. If chosen, the frater’s expenses are fully paid and he gets to experience a once in a lifetime event. Our chapter has been fortunate to have fraters attend this leadership academy for the past two years. This year was no different as Brent Taylor, Pi Delta 468, represented our chapter at the academy August 6-10, 2010. As Brent summed up his experience, “I left the Leadership Academy with the tools I need to influence people to work together toward a common goal, knowledge I will use throughout my life.” Congrats to Brent for representing Pi Delta.
