Today, Sept 14, starts the IFC formal recruitment week. This week is designed to give all interested men a chance to meet and interact with each of the fraternities within IFC. The participants visit each of the four fraternity houses the first two nights, and then they are able to choose with house(s) they wish to visit again on the third night. The last night, the fraternities will invite back certain members to their houses so they will be able to get to know the guys even better.
The Pi Delta men have be preparing to make this week memorable for the participants and hope to show the campus what being in a Fraternity is all about.
This week will be fun and interesting for all the men participating.
This past week, August 31- Sept. 3, the good ol’ boys from the Pi Delta chapter showed UAB yet again what they are made of. Picture it; the TKE House, this past week, tons of people, and a have fun attitude. Add them together and you get TKE Week, the week long celebration welcoming everyone back to school and saying good-bye to summer.
The first day, when the sun was shining and a breeze a’blowin, the brothers played football on the Campus Green. On Tuesday night, the ring was set and the bell rang as the UFC Fight Night got underway. Wednesday saw Greek Games and fun times. But the mack-daddy of them all was Casino Night. Blackjack, Poker, and chips galore. The House was yet again decked out and the guest followed suit. At the end of the night, the person with the most chips won received a prize. This year’s prize: a Snuggie!
The week went off without a hitch, and the boys are ready for next year to roll around.
Dr. Dory Curtis, Pi Delta 9, was recently elected to the position of chapter advisor for the Pi Delta chapter. Dr. Curtis is an orthopedic surgeon at Medical West in Bessemer, AL , a UAB affiliate. He has enjoyed great success in his field and wishes to continue on with success as the chapter advisor. The brothers of the chapter gratefully extend their hand in welcoming Dr. Curtis as the chapter advisor.
On Friday, August 28 many Pi Delta alumni payed the TKE house a visit. The alumni got to see many of their brothers who they had not seen in many years while the new brothers got to hear stories of years past. Alumni are so important to the Pi Delta brothers and all of them thank the ones who were able to come and support the current chapter. The chapter is planning on hosting more alumni based events in the near future, so please be on the look-out for new posts.
Saturday, August 29, the brothers of Pi Delta chapter hosted the legendary Kon-Teke-E party. This party has been hosted by the Pi Delta brothers for decades, and it has always been a huge success. Kon-Teke-E is a luau style party complete with Tiki torches, bamboo, grass skirts, and just about everything else tiki. The brothers worked long and hard to transform the TKE house into a tropical paradise fit for the occasion. The house was covered with bamboo and tiki torches and even a fire-spinner to top it all off. The party-goers also dressed for the occasion with some wearing grass skirts, bathing suites, and others wearing various outfits fit for the beach. One fact, however, that out-did all the rest was the shear number of attendees. The house was literally covered from front to back with people. The pictures can speak for themselves on that fact.
Overall, Kon-Teke-E was a huge success and will go down as one of the best parties of the year.
