Last Sunday, November 15, the Pi Delta brothers initiated 20 new brothers into the ranks of Tau Kappa Epsilon. After making it through eight weeks of learning about the Fraternity and the local chapter, the associate members were ready to officially become brothers. While in this eight weeks period under the leadership of Frater Dom Stella, the new members learned about the six focal points of TKE, Scholarship, Leadership, Teamwork, Character, Brotherhood, and Service. With each week came a new focal point which the new members learned about and actively participated in demonstrating. The new members also learned about the current brothers and other current chapter activities. TKE Nation should be very proud to welcome these 20 new members into the Bond.
Good football is always preceded by good tailgates. Last Saturday, Nov. 7, the TKE through down a killer tailgate with the Pi Delta alumni during their annual TKE Alumni Tailgate. The tailgate was in the Blazer Village outside of Legion Field. It started at 10 in the morning and lasted up until the kick off at 1PM. Hot dogs and hamburgers were served along with side dishes from alumni. All the brothers enjoyed spending time with each other and sharing old stories. After the tailgate, the Blazers played a great game and pulled out a stunning victory.
During half time at the homecoming game, Frater Andrew Stone, took home one of the most prestigious awards at UAB- Mr. UAB. There were several rounds of interviews and many great people running, but in the end Andrew pulled out an overwhelming victory. This was the first year that the student body was able to vote, and Andrew campained extremelywell. He made Facebook groups and the like, all the while still going out to the student body in general and campaigning. As Mr. UAB, Andrew will serve as a leader of the Student Alumni Society and on the NAS Board. Additionally, Andrew received a $1,500 scholarship along with his title. Frater Stone truly has earned the prize and will make UAB proud as he carries the title.

With Halloween only a few days away, October 27 was a great day for Pi Delta to sponsor a Red Cross Blood drive. The event was held at the UAB Recreation Center and started at 11am. The event was scheduled to end at 4pm, but due to the huge line of donors, and with the help of the dedicated Red Cross staff, we were are able to stay for an extra 3 hours! The goal the brothers had for the event was to receive 35 units of blood, but as more and more donors came to show their support, the number grew to a very impressive 48 unites of blood! Tekes, other UAB Greeks, UAB staff and other leaders on campus were among the donors.
The brothers would like to thank all who attended and made the event a success and, most importantly, thanks to Red Cross and their staff for giving us the opportunity to give back and save lives.
After the brothers of the Pi Delta chapter were done with Habitat for Humanity, they made their way to the Alpha Xi Delta philanthropy to benefit autism- PuzzlePalooza. This was a tournament in which teams competed to put puzzles together the fastest. There were four rounds to the event with each round’s puzzle harder than the last. Light snacks were served throughout the event. The TKE brothers had 4 teams to enter and they ranked 2nd overall.
All proceeds benefited the Autism Speaks and the Alpha Xi Delta Foundation!
